Question 1

Do you guarantee seeing the northern lights?

Accepted Answer

No. Nobody in Iceland can honestly guarantee them: they depend on solar activity, cloud cover and latitude. What we do guarantee is pursuing them properly — reading Kp, solar wind and live cloud maps, and moving to wherever the sky breaks open.

Question 2

What happens if it's cloudy or the weather doesn't hold?

Accepted Answer

We pivot. Iceland is an island, and there's almost always a gap in the clouds 1–3 hours away. If the forecast is fully closed or roads are shut, we don't go out for the sake of it — we reschedule the night within your stay whenever possible.

Question 3

Can I reschedule the outing if the night is bad?

Accepted Answer

Yes, subject to availability across your remaining nights. That's why we recommend at least 3 nights in Iceland during aurora season (September–April): it gives margin to wait for the right night instead of forcing a guaranteed-bad one.

Question 4

What does the experience include?

Accepted Answer

Private guide in Spanish/English, heated 4×4 transport, complimentary professional photos and photo assistance during the aurora chase, plus full route flexibility based on that night's sky. Clothing and drinks are not included: we send you a packing list once your booking is confirmed.

Question 5

How long does an aurora chase last?

Accepted Answer

Between 4 and 8 hours, usually between 20:00 and 02:00. It's not a clock-watching tour: if activity climbs at 01:30, we stay. If the sky opens early, we come back early. The night decides.

Question 6

When is the best time to see auroras in Iceland?

Accepted Answer

September to mid-April, when nights are dark enough. The most stable skies tend to fall in February, March and October, but the real peak depends on the solar cycle and latitude — not the tourist calendar.

Question 7

What is your weather cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Accepted Answer

If we cancel for safety reasons — Veðurstofa orange/red alerts, winds above 18 m/s, road closures or fully closed forecast — we reschedule at no cost within your remaining nights. If no nights are left, we refund 100% of that outing. If you cancel: free up to 72 h before, 50% between 72 and 24 h, and non-refundable inside 24 h (unless weather forces us to cancel anyway). We always notify you on WhatsApp as early as possible and propose the best alternative for that night.

Question 8

How do you decide whether to go out on a given night?

Accepted Answer

Every afternoon, before briefing, we cross four sources: the Geophysical Institute's Kp index, Veðurstofa Íslands' cloud and wind map, Vegagerðin's road status and Safetravel.is alerts. If all four allow it, we go. If two or more are red, we reschedule.

Question 9

What are your wind and storm limits?

Accepted Answer

We automatically cancel with sustained winds above 18 m/s (≈65 km/h), gusts over 25 m/s, orange or red Veðurstofa alerts, or any blizzard or black-ice warning on the planned route. It's non-negotiable: in Iceland, wind kills more tourists than cold.

Question 10

How do you keep the group safe during the outing?

Accepted Answer

4×4 Sprinter on studded winter tires, first-aid kit, thermal blankets, shovels, chains and an extra fuel can. The guide shares the route and ETA with base, carries a satellite radio in no-signal areas, and always keeps the group within sight of the vehicle when we step out to shoot.

Question 11

What happens if the weather changes once the group is on the road?

Accepted Answer

The guide checks forecast and roads every 30–45 minutes. If an alert escalates or a road closes, we turn back or take shelter in the nearest town. Your safety outweighs the photo. A lost night can be rescheduled; an accident cannot.

Question 12

What fitness level do I need? Is it suitable for kids or seniors?

Accepted Answer

The aurora chase requires no physical effort: most of it happens inside the Sprinter or standing near the vehicle. Suitable from age 7–8 and for seniors in good health. Glacier or ice-cave activities have separate requirements we review with you before booking.

Question 13

What's the temperature like and what clothing do I need?

Accepted Answer

In winter (Nov–Mar) it ranges from −5 °C to −15 °C, with wind chill making it feel colder. Clothing is not included: you must bring a windproof/waterproof parka, waterproof boots, gloves, a thermal base layer (merino), mid layer (fleece or down), beanie, buff and wool socks. Avoid cotton. Rain or snow is frequent. We send a detailed packing list once your booking is confirmed.

Question 14

Do I need travel insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's mandatory for all our expeditions. We recommend international medical coverage, emergency evacuation (Iceland is remote and rescues are costly), trip cancellation for force majeure, and baggage. We send a guide with recommended insurers after booking.

Question 15

How much does it cost exactly and what does the price include?

Accepted Answer

From $900 USD per person/day in large groups (Ring Road), $1,200/day in Sprinter format (South Coast, Midnight Sun) and from $1,800/day private 2–8 pax (Aurora Expedition, Tailor-made). Includes bilingual guide, 4×4 transport with driver, boutique hotel in double room, breakfasts and all itinerary activities. Excludes international flights, lunches/dinners (except where noted) and travel insurance. Exact quote within 24 h on WhatsApp.
