If you've already experienced Iceland in winter, summer will reveal a completely different country.

The sun never sets. Fields burst with purple lupines. Puffins nest on the cliffs. And the Highlands — closed half the year — finally open their trails. This expedition is designed for those who already know the winter magic and are ready to be astonished all over again.

Itinerary

8 days, day by day.

Each day blends scenic driving, iconic stops, and free time for photography, optional hikes, or simply breathing in the landscape.

Day 01

Arrival in Reykjavík · Nordic Welcome

◉ Reykjanes Peninsula → Reykjavík→ ~50 km · 45 min

Land at Keflavík International Airport. Your guide greets you with a welcome drink and transfers you across the volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula to Reykjavík, the world's northernmost capital. Free afternoon to unwind or explore the city center: the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church, the Harpa concert hall by the harbor, and the vibrant Laugavegur street. Optional welcome dinner and trip briefing. At this latitude in midsummer, the sun doesn't set until well past midnight.

Day 02

Golden Circle + Secret Lagoon

◉ Þingvellir → Geysir → Gullfoss → Flúðir→ ~250 km · extended stops

A full circuit of the legendary Golden Circle. We start at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you'll walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Then on to the geothermal area of Geysir to watch Strokkur erupt every 6–10 minutes. Afternoon at Gullfoss, the two-tiered 'golden waterfall' plunging into a deep canyon. We close the day soaking in the Secret Lagoon (Gamla Laugin), Iceland's oldest natural thermal pool, wrapped in steam and moss. Night in the south.

Day 03

South Coast — Waterfalls, Glaciers & Black Sand

◉ Seljalandsfoss → Skógafoss → Reynisfjara → Vík→ ~190 km

An epic day tracing the Ring Road along the south coast. First stop: Seljalandsfoss, where a trail leads you behind the curtain of water. Then Skógafoss, a vertical wall of 60 meters — climb 527 steps for an aerial view. We pass Sólheimajökull glacier (optional ice hike with crampons) and arrive at Reynisfjara, the volcanic black-sand beach with hexagonal basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the Atlantic. Watch for sneaker waves. Night in the fishing village of Vík.

Day 04

Skaftafell, Jökulsárlón & Diamond Beach

◉ Vík → Skaftafell → Jökulsárlón → Höfn→ ~270 km

We cross the vast Eldhraun lava fields (1783 eruption) blanketed in fluorescent green moss, arriving at Vatnajökull National Park — Europe's largest glacier. A short hike leads to Svartifoss waterfall, framed by dramatic black basalt columns. In the afternoon, the crown jewel: Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, where blue icebergs calve from Breiðamerkurjökull and drift toward the sea. Optional zodiac boat ride among the ice. We cross to Diamond Beach, where crystal ice chunks sparkle against black sand. Night near Höfn, the lobster capital.

Day 05

East Fjords — The Iceland Few Ever See

◉ Höfn → Djúpivogur → Seyðisfjörður → Egilsstaðir→ ~290 km · scenic route

The most cinematic leg of the journey. The road winds between mountains and deep fjords, with stops in remote fishing villages like Djúpivogur and Stöðvarfjörður. We cross the Öxi pass (conditions permitting) and descend into the spectacular Seyðisfjörður fjord, known for its blue church, rainbow-painted street, and thriving arts scene. High chances of spotting wild reindeer — found only in eastern Iceland. Night in Egilsstaðir, beside the mysterious Lake Lagarfljót.

Day 06

Dettifoss, Mývatn & Geothermal Wonders

◉ Egilsstaðir → Dettifoss → Mývatn→ ~190 km

North to Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall — 100 meters wide, with a roar you feel in your chest. We continue to the volcanic Mývatn region, a natural theme park: the Dimmuborgir lava fields ('dark castles') whose formations inspired Game of Thrones, the 1-km-wide Hverfjall crater, the yellow and red fumaroles of Námaskarð, and the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðir. We close with a soak at the Mývatn Nature Baths — the northern, crowd-free alternative to the Blue Lagoon. Night by the lake.

Day 07

Goðafoss, Akureyri & Whale Watching on Eyjafjörður

◉ Mývatn → Goðafoss → Akureyri→ ~100 km

En route to Akureyri we stop at Goðafoss, the 'Waterfall of the Gods', where the pagan chieftain Þorgeir cast his idols when Iceland adopted Christianity in the year 1000. We arrive in Akureyri, the northern capital, home to the world's northernmost botanical garden and its striking cathedral. Afternoon whale watching cruise on Eyjafjörður — humpbacks, minke whales, and dolphins are common in summer. Free time for cafés, Icelandic design shops, and a craft beer at Einstök Bar. Night in Akureyri.

Day 08

Akureyri → Reykjavík · Farewell

◉ Domestic flight or scenic road→ 45-min flight · or 390 km by road

Depending on the group's pace, we return to Reykjavík by scenic domestic flight over the glacial interior, or by road tracing the west coast with a stop on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula — 'Iceland in miniature', home to the glacier-volcano that inspired Jules Verne. Farewell dinner in Reykjavík, raising a glass to the Second Chapter. Transfer to the airport per your flight times, or add an extra night.
